The New Canaan Community Foundation Scholarships

New Canaan Community Foundation

Overview

The New Canaan Community Foundation awards $132,000 in scholarships to New Canaan students attending a not-for-profit school. Some scholarships are based on merit, financial need, or extracurricular activities. There’s one application for all 28 of their scholarships, which asks for official transcripts, the CSS Profile or the FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS), and a letter of recommendation. Local students have a very high chance to win!

FAQ

The main difference between an official transcript and an unofficial transcript is an official transcript can't be viewed by you, and an unofficial transcript can be viewed by you. An official transcript contains an official seal, mark, and / or signature from your school, and is sent directly to the scholarship you're applying to. An unofficial transcript contains the same information, but it will be given to you first, and then you can send or upload it to the scholarship you're applying to.

A letter of recommendation (letter of rec) is a letter written by someone in your life who can speak to your achievements, positive traits, and potential. It's basically a summary of why you're great and deserve the scholarship or funding you're applying for! Typically, students ask teachers, mentors, coaches, or employers (never family or friends). FYI: You have to ask someone to write a letter of rec for you.

To prioritize your scholarship applications, think about which scholarships you have the best chance of getting (the most specific ones, with more than one winner), the ones due the soonest, and the ones that are awarding the most money.

Tip: We recommend you make a schedule for yourself to follow to stay organized and on track throughout the scholarship application season! You can always ask a Mos advisor for help.
